In no particular order, let’s take you through some of this years hotshot Nollywood movies that made it to the cinema. It’s no news Nollywood has recently evolved into a whole new industry, gracing the screens of international film festivals.

This year, Nollywood has definitely not slacked behind with its new releases.


First off, “The In-Laws”, Nollywood’s most recent release Directed by Charles Uwagbai and produced by Bola Oba. Here we see Toyin Abraham playing a different role from her norm, as she plays a more conservative part of a recently engaged young lady who goes through a storm with her fiancée, trying to get their families in one accord. Also starring are, Chris Attoh- her fiancée, Ngozi Nwosu, Dele Odule, Charles Inojie, Ayo Mogaji and Wole Arole bringing in a little bit of a comedic twist. This Family drama is out in cinema’s now!


“Isoken”, this movie not only has a rich display of the Nigerian norms and culture but also gives us a feel of what the typical Nigerian lady goes through when she’s over due for marriage. Isoken is in a love triangle and must choose between whom her mother deems appropriate for her and the actual love of her life. Directed by Jade Osiberu, her debut film and it is worth the hype. Starring, Dakore Akande, Funke Akindele, Damilola Adegbite, Mark Rhys, Joseph Benjamin and more. This comedy drama is a must watch!


“Okafor’s Law”, despite the legal battle leading to the release of the movie, it still managed to make waves in Nollywood. The movie features Blossom Chuks Chukwujekwu aka Terminator, trying to prove to his two friends that Okafor’s law does exist and goes ahead to play with the hearts of three young ladies. Also featuring are the likes of Omoni Oboli, Richard Mofe Damijo, Toyin Abraham, Tina Mba, Ufuoma McDermott, Gabriel Afolayan and more. The movie was directed and produced by Omoni Oboli, who also had screen time.


“Alakada Reloaded”, our favorite star is back with much more deceit, comedy and fantasies. This time, Toyin Abraham adds star power to the movie, with the likes of Ali Baba, Odunlade Adekola, Kehinde Bankole, Gabriel Afolayan, Woli Arole, Nedu Brazil, Bidemi Kosoko, Liz Da Silva, Lala Akindoju, Mr. Latin, Iyabo Ojo Helen Paul, Lilian Esoro and Annie Idibia. She cuts across all spheres of reality with this comedy movie. This Yoruba comedy is sure to have you jumping on your seats with laughter.


“10 days in sun city”, once again AY blesses our screens with yet another hilarious comedy. He brings together a superb cast to give us the best- Adesua Etomi, Mercy Johnson, Ali Baba, Folarin Falana (Falz), OAP Freeze, Uti Nwachukwu, Sexy Steel, Juliet Ibrahim, Gbenro Ajibade, Peter P-Square, 2face Idibia, Annie Idibia, singer, Solid Star, and his humble self AY Makun. Just the trailer of this movie will leave you wanting more laughter.
