Sky Sport Italia has reported that Roma director Walter Sabatini has outbid Chelsea with an improved €2.2million per season wages for five years to land the left-back from German Bundesliga side Augsburg.
The English champions who all along have been favourites to land Baba are reported to have offered €400,000 less (€1.8m) in wages.
Both clubs however still fall short of Augburg’s demands. The Germans had initially placed a minimum €20million price tag on the Ghana international but are now reportedly said to want €5m more.
According to reports, the Stadio Olimpico side have made an offer of €18million including bonuses to Augsburg while Chelsea’s bid is said to be €15million.
Baba who recently turned 21 has four years left in his contract with Augsburg.
